Potential goals-- (discussed during December GRT meeting)

  • The "end" dictates unit priorities;
  • Overview; establishing pieces and reflection, formative and pre-assessment pieces;
  • Leave with something practical;
  • Pre-assessment piece(s) and plan for how to use it;
  • Provide several pre-assessment "entry points"
  • Show pre-assessment piece followed by student work--what is action plan?
  • Here's what, so what, now what?
  • Now what--guided questions for discussion and reflection

Finalized goals--
  1. Explore the importance of creating a balanced assessment system that gauges student mastery and understanding of content and of gifted benchmarks;
  2. Create a variety of assessment pieces that challenge gifted learners to demonstrate the facets of understanding.

Big Idea(s)

  • Here's What! (How does balanced assessment enhance gifted learner outcomes and benchmarks?)--15 minutes?
  • Now What? (What assessment strategies work best to achieve the goals stated in part one?)---15 minutes?
  • So What... (How could you employ one or more of these strategies in a specific unit?)--15 minutes?
  • Look at What! (What did you create?)--5 minutes?
